Elite golfers from around the world are about to test their skills at one of golf’s most prestigious events. The Presidents Cup, taking place from September 24-29 at the Royal Montreal Golf Club in Canada, features a tournament between the top golfers from the U.S. and an international team. This year, 17-time PGA Tour champion Jim Furyk has taken the helm as Captain of the U.S. team. After competing in the Presidents Cup multiple times, Furyk brings a wealth of experience and leadership to the role.

About the Presidents Cup

Since its inception in 1994, the Presidents Cup has united the world’s top golfers to compete for team, country, and charity. This biennial tournament features the best players from the United States against an International team, excluding Europe, with no prize money at stake. Instead, funds raised are donated to charities chosen by the competitors, resulting in over $56.4 million being donated to more than 475 charities across 18 countries. The Presidents Cup’s unique match play format, including four-ball, foursomes, and singles matches, awards points for each match, with the highest-scoring team winning the event.

Jim Furyk Selected as U.S. Team Captain

Furyk’s experience in prior Presidents Cups made him the ideal choice for this year’s captain. He has competed in seven Presidents Cups and served as an assistant captain twice—under Jay Haas in 2015 and Steve Stricker in 2017. Furyk also played in the event’s previous visit to Royal Montreal in 2007, where he earned a 3-2 record, including two victories alongside Tiger Woods. In his final appearance as a player in 2011 at The Royal Melbourne Golf Club, Furyk achieved a flawless 5-0-0 record, becoming only the fourth player in Presidents Cup history to do so.

“I am honored and humbled to be selected as captain of the U.S. Team for the 2024 Presidents Cup,” shared Furyk. “Over several decades, this event has evolved tremendously into the global showcase it is today. So many legendary captains have come before me, so now to be here as the 2024 U.S. Team Captain is quite remarkable.”

A Global Golf Career

Jim Furyk’s golfing journey began early, guided by his father, a golf professional in Pennsylvania. He excelled at the University of Arizona, leading his team to an NCAA championship and earning All-American honors twice. Turning professional in 1992, Furyk captured his first PGA TOUR title in 1995 and went on to win 16 more tournaments. He set the PGA TOUR record for the lowest single-round score with a 58 in 2016. After turning 50 in 2020, he joined PGA TOUR Champions, winning his first two starts. Furyk was also honored with the Payne Stewart Award in 2016 for exemplifying the values of character, charity, and sportsmanship.

First Jim Furyk Signature Course Set to Open This Winter

While Jim Furyk is eagerly anticipating his role as team captain for the Presidents Cup, he is also excited about a new venture: designing his first signature course at Glynlea Country Club. Located on Florida’s Treasure Coast, this emerging private country club aims to offer an inclusive experience for golfers of all skill levels. The golf course features an unconventional par-72 layout with five par fives and five par threes, deviating from the typical four and four configuration. Four sets of tees and strategically placed bunkers will guide players toward optimal angles of approach rather than simply serving as obstacles. The course will also be integrated into nature, with scrub pines and preserves providing a stunning backdrop on each hole.

“I think too many people see a tour player as the designer and they immediately think ‘Oh my goodness this course is going to be hard,’” said Furyk. “That’s not the case here. Our goal was to create a fun golf course, a fun atmosphere, and a place where all levels of golfers could come together to enjoy the game.”

A Modern Approach to Country Club Living

Adding to the golf amenities, Glynlea Country Club is planning to use 10 acres of land to create a unique, Member-exclusive Club Campus. A Toptracer Aquatic Driving Range will provide a Top Golf-style experience with floating balls and greens, while a pro shop with on-site professionals will get everyone ready for the game. Fairways Tavern will offer craft cocktails and casual dining, while resort-style and lap pools will create a tropical oasis. The Glynlea Fitness and Wellness Center includes a modern fitness center, tennis courts, and pickleball courts, ensuring residents can stay active and entertained year-round.

Home sales at Glynlea are expected to begin this winter. The community will feature a variety of residential offerings from the $400s to over $1 million. Single-family homes, townhomes, and villas will all enjoy beautiful views of the golf course as well as the surrounding lakes and preserves. An HOA will manage maintenance, landscaping, and community amenities, ensuring a hassle-free experience for all.
