There’s something remarkable that forms when friendships intertwine with the art of golf course design. This guiding principle is at the heart of Glynlea Country Club, a new golf course community on Florida’s Treasure Coast. PGA legend and 17x champion Jim Furyk is set to unveil his first signature golf course, partnering with Hampton Golf and GreenPointe Developers to create an extraordinary Florida lifestyle. From the initial sketches to the construction that’s now underway, this collaboration unites top talents and a shared vision to make golf accessible to all. Here’s a closer look at the friendships that are shaping this iconic new fairway.
From Tournaments to Teamwork
Furyk’s collaboration with GreenPointe Developers stems from his connection with Ed Burr, the President and CEO of GreenPointe Holdings LLC. His commitment to nonprofits led him to participate in the Monique Burr Foundation’s Champions for Child Safety Pro Am Golf Tournament. The annual tournament raises funds for educational programs that empower students from Pre-K to 12th grade to handle unsafe situations. After playing in numerous tournaments and forming a close bond with Ed and his family, Jim was approached by Ed about designing the golf course Glynlea. The GreenPointe team has also added Michael Beebe, a 40-year veteran in golf course architecture, and golf course shaper of over 20 years David Johnson to the team.
“To be chosen for this and to be the golf course designer has been an honor,” shared Furyk. “I’ve done consulting projects over the last 15 years, but this is the first time I’ll have my name on a course like this. We’ve also got a great team with Mike Beebe as the architect and David Johnson as our shaper. It’s a collaborative effort with truly great people.”
Jim Furyk’s Signature Vision
The Jim Furyk Signature Course will be the first part of Glynlea Country Club to open this winter. Designed by the PGA legend himself, the course aims to provide a tour-level experience while remaining accessible for beginners. This unconventional par-72 layout features five par fives and five par threes, deviating from the standard four and four. Spanning 4,249 to 6,755 yards with four sets of tees, the course is strategically designed to use bunkers as guiding elements, directing players toward preferred angles of approach to the greens rather than being mere obstacles.
“Our goal was to create a fun golf course, a fun atmosphere, and a place where all levels of golfers could come together to enjoy the game,” shared Furyk. “The course also blends in with nature. We’ve layered the bunkers and organized the natural scrub pines in a way that creates land movement and gives golfers a pleasant feel. Whether on the golf course or the homes surrounding it, we want residents to enjoy its beauty from every angle.”
Hampton Golf’s Premier Lifestyle Program
Ed Burr collaborated with his friend M.G. Orender to curate a premium golf lifestyle for Glynlea Country Club Members. Together, they founded Hampton Golf in 1998, a company that has effectively managed over 20 golf courses and lifestyle amenities for top-tier master-planned communities across Florida. Their vision for Glynlea was to create a welcoming environment catering to all skill levels, ages, and handicaps. At the core of their offerings is the Golf Shop, where Members can receive personalized fittings for the latest equipment and gear. The professional staff is available to assist in selecting the right clubs or providing training sessions on the innovative Toptracer Aquatic Driving Range. This state-of-the-art practice facility features floating golf balls and greens, enabling Members to improve their swing or enjoy casual Top Golf-style entertainment with friends on the day of play. After a practice session, they can unwind at Fairways Tavern, indulging in craft cocktails and casual dining options al fresco on the covered patio.
Orender is looking forward to collaborating with both GreenPointe Developers and Jim Furyk. “Ed and I have built seven or eight courses together, and it’s a beautiful thing to come together again for Glynlea,” said Orender. “He asked how I felt about Jim being the designer, and I said that would be incredible. Jim has a great eye for design. He knows how to make a golf course where you can stand on the tee, look down the fairway, and know exactly where to hit it.”
A Modern Approach to Club Amenities
Adding to the golf amenities, Glynlea Country Club is planning to use 10 acres of land to create a unique, Member-exclusive Club Campus. This expansive campus will be anchored by a tropical oasis, boasting both resort-style and lap pools. The Glynlea Fitness and Wellness Center will feature a modern fitness center, tennis courts, and pickleball courts, providing numerous options for staying active. Additionally, residents will enjoy access to Wylder’s community-wide amenities, including lakeside recreational areas, charming pocket parks, and the sprawling 113-acre Wylder Park.
